MBR vs SBR STPs: Which Technology is Right for Your Hotel or IT Park?

Both MBR and SBR are proven, widely-deployed STP technologies for commercial buildings. But they serve different use cases.

Membrane Bioreactor (MBR)

MBR combines biological treatment with membrane filtration in a single step. It produces high-quality effluent suitable for toilet flushing, cooling tower makeup, and landscape irrigation without additional polishing.

Sequencing Batch Reactor (SBR)

SBR runs biological treatment in sequential batches — fill, aerate, settle, decant. Lower CAPEX than MBR but requires more footprint and produces lower-quality effluent without polishing.
