RO Membrane Selection Guide for Industrial Applications

RO membrane selection is the single most important decision in designing an RO system. The wrong choice costs you in energy, recovery rate, and replacement cycles.

Key Selection Parameters

  • Salt rejection rate (NaCl %): Higher is better for desalination; 99.5%+ for industrial
  • Permeate flux (LMH): Governs membrane area needed
  • Operating pressure (bar): Higher TDS requires higher pressure
  • Temperature range: Affects flux and rejection

Membrane Types and Applications

TypeTDS RangeApplication
BW (Brackish Water)500–5,000 mg/LIndustrial RO, DM plants
NF (Nanofiltration)200–1,000 mg/LHardness removal, colour removal
SWROUp to 45,000 mg/LSeawater desalination
UFN/A (particulate)MBR, pre-treatment
